Methods and Precautions of Sweet Potato Seedling Planting

1. Pay attention to these five points when planting sweet potato in field

①Surface planting. Under the premise of ensuring the survival of potato seedlings, use surface planting as far as possible. The soil layer with loose soil, good ventilation and large temperature difference between day and night is beneficial to the formation and expansion of potatoes. Under the condition of moist soil, the suitable depth is 5-7cm, and the depth of dry land should not exceed 8cm.

② Increase the number of tuber seedlings into the soil, generally 4-6. It is beneficial to grow more roots. It is easy to survive, has many tubers and high yield.

③ After planting, keep the seedlings upright. The vertical potato seedlings do not contact with the ground, so as to avoid the weak seedlings or dead seedlings caused by high temperature on the ground.

④ In dry season, it can be planted by burying leaves. Bury more leaves in the soil as much as possible. The method of burying leaves has high survival rate. Revive seedling quickly, which is beneficial to yield increase. After transplanting, the demand of water distribution is high. This method can effectively solve the problem of water supply for potato seedlings. The leaf not only does not lose water, but also absorbs water from the soil to ensure that the shoot tip turns green as soon as possible. It can avoid the water competition between leaves and stem tips, which delays the return of seedlings due to wilting of shoot tips, and even causes potato seedlings to die in serious cases.

⑤ Before planting, we must pour enough water into the nest, and after planting, pay attention to carefully seal the nest and cover the soil. In order to ensure the survival of potato seedlings, combine each section of potato seedlings into the soil closely with the soil, absorb water in time and promote to take root, survive, and sufficient water must be poured before planting. After water dries up after planting, seal the nest and cover the soil. It can prevent the seedlings from dying due to moisture loss and ventilation.

All in all, in order to ensure the survival of sweet potato cuttings, we should carry out the "four no planting" principle. Do not plant it in a thunderstorm; don't plant in northwest wind. Do not plant it when the light is strong; don't plant when the soil is dry after sunny days lasts for a long time. It prevents the lack of plants and ridging.

2. Sweet potato seedlings should be planted in time and early.

Due to the restriction of low temperature and cultivation system, the growth period of sweet potato has a certain time limit. Early planting in time can make full use of the limited growth period, which is the key to increase the yield of sweet potato.

Under the suitable conditions, the earlier the seedlings are planted, the longer the growth period is, which can give full play to the advantages of asexual propagation, increase the accumulation of nutrients, promote the early bearing of potatoes, and more potatoes, and prolong the expansion time of root tuber. It is beneficial to dry matter accumulation of potatoes, and increase yield and quality. The quality is important to the further sweet potato processing.

At the same time, timely plant plant stem and leaf early, increase leaf area, promote root development, thus enhancing the plant resistance. If the seedlings are planted too late, the growth period is shortened, potatoes are few and small, the yield is low and the quality is poor. The suitable time for seedling planting was 10 cm after the end of late frost. When the ground temperature is above 15°C, the seedlings can be planted earlier by covering with plastic film.

3. Sweet potato seedlings should not be irrigated with flood water after cuttage.

In order to save working hours, some areas adopt irrigation ditch after planting or planting after heavy rain. Although this method can ensure a high survival rate, it often results in slow growth and slow growth of potato seedlings for a long time. The reason is that after the flood irrigation, the soil is saturated with water, the soil becomes more solid, the soil porosity is reduced, the oxygen content in the soil is reduced, the soil temperature is relatively low, and the root growth is slow, which hinders the development of root system. This results in slow seedling growth. In the dry season, if the field adopts planting by watering the nest and burying the leaves, the soil oxygen will be sufficient, the soil temperature will be high, the potato seedlings can return to the seedling quickly and the growth potential will be strong.
